Headband tutorial

ok, I have had a request to show how I wear the hippie/bohemian headband. My sister is actually the one who showed me how to do this, I had to be taught.. 🙂 once I got the hang of it, there was no looking back! It’s a very common accessory in my wardrobe.

Now since I am just starting out with this blog I don’t have any super fancy camera to shoot a video so I’m just using my iPhone camera and will try my best to describe each one in detail.

You can do this with straight, curly, or wavy hair. I personally think it looks better when your hair has some texture to it but I have seen some girls with gorgeous straight hair pull it off. I over curl mine and then tossle it so it gives more of a beachy wave look. If it’s the next day hair I just add dry shampoo and “fluff” my hair. My hair holds curl for a couple days really well.

-Before putting on the headband, if you want to add volume to the back, tease your hair at the crown of your head. Over tease and then brush it out to smooth a little. DO NOT leave it looking like a rats nest. That’s a big no no. This is a good tutorial on how to properly tease. http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2012/04/how-to-tease-hair/

-when placing the headband the back of it should sit at the base of your head, where your head and neck meet.

– where the top sits is more up to your preference. I prefer it to sit just at or below my hair line on my forehead.

-to give it a more hippie look you can lower the front to sit more in the middle of your forehead.

– next you want the side of the headband to sit right at the top of your ear. Don’t tuck your hair behind your ears either. Leave your hair in front of your ears. The picture below shows where it sits near my ears. I will also add a bobby pin right behind my ear to keep it in place. Just make sure it’s hidden.

– different headbands can give you different looks. Have a variety of them!  You can have all your hair tucked in in the back or have some hair over the back of the headband.

Well there you go! I hope that was helpful. Send me a picture when you try it for yourself! Trust me, YOU can pull it off! And you’ll love it. 🙂
