Routine

I am all about routines and schedules. I like my day to be planned out ahead of time. I thrive in it. I have a daily routine for me getting dressed and ready for the day. If it gets thrown off, I get thrown off too. It’s something I am learning to be more flexible with.

Anyways I thought I’d share some tips that help make my days run a little smoother in the getting dressed area. It may help make things easier for you as well or it might not work at all for you. Do what works for you.

What works for me:

Showering when the kids nap Both mine are little enough that they nap daily and for a couple hours at a time. During this time I’m tempted to lay down myself (which at times I do) but I usually force myself to hop in the shower. There’s usually still time afterwards that I can still lay down. If for some reason their naps don’t overlap then I’ll put a movie on for Malachi, he loves to watch a movie in bed or for Miss I just bring her in the bathroom with me. She’s good to just hang out (most of the time) while I do my thing. I would like to point out that they don’t nap till noon, so it’s not like I’m up first thing in the morning all dressed and pretty. No way. I am not a morning person. It usually takes me that long to wake up and get out of the fog.

Don’t shower every day, invest in dry shampoo. Ladies, dry shampoo. Get some. It’s awesome and allows me to shower every other day which makes getting ready time shorter. I have super thick, greasy hair and it works wonders. I like Herbal Essences dry shampoo or Treseme. You can get it anywhere. I still wash my face every day and some times just rinse in the shower if my stench is bad enough but with this I am not washing and drying my hair every day.

Shower at night. If I know I need to be someone early in the morning I will shower at night. I’ll even blow dry my hair and curl it so that in the morning all I need to do is dry shampoo it and fix a curl or two. I know at the end of the day we are all exhausted but are we really going to bed early right after the kids are in bed. No, we stay up late watching tv, pinteresting, facebooking, what have you. Showers are just as relaxing as those and you get clean in the process. It’s a win win. 🙂

Do one step at a time and in between things. This past week, things just have not been working out for me. I’m not able to manage doing a whole lot. So in between tasks I would wash my face, then continue cleaning, playing with kids, then later on I would come back and brush my hair and add make up, go back to cleaning then come back and get dressed. It took me all day to achieve all this but my end result was I was dressed, hair done, teeth brushed and make up on. I felt better at the end of the day knowing I made an attempt to be put together. You could always hop in the shower for 5 minutes, let your hair air dry (I know scary!) Fix it later on and get dressed. The point is you are making the effort even if it takes you till 5 pm.

Well there you go, hope those can help you at all. Do you have other tips or ideas to help get ready for the day? I’d love to hear them.
